we're still alive! We've just been busy unpacking, setting up our apartment and getting settled.
Here is a brief update with some of our praises and prayer requests...
New apartment
Our new apartment is a blessing. It's great living on campus! Even though we were told that the waiting list was a year long (we signed up in March), God provided us with an apartment that is close to school, affordable, nice and safe (in this not-too-safe neighborhood). It is smaller than our last place in Idaho, but the layout is very similar.
It's also nice to live right next door to other fellow students. We've gotten to know many of our neighbors. The day we moved in, we found out that our friend from Chicago, Catherine (Derek's former church friend and Chantal's former neighbor in Chicago), had moved into the apartment right next to ours! She is also a new student at DTS. It's been fun going furniture shopping and visiting churches in the area together.
Unpacking
All our stuff arrived on time and in good shape. Thanks to all the help we got from the experienced GoodSeed moving crew, we managed to fit our stuff (including most but not all furniture) into a 6"x7"x8" trailor that got shipped down from Idaho (see John K's photos). Right now, we're still acquiring furniture and unpacking... After three weeks, that can get kind of annoying, but at least it's better than packing! :)
HOT
We've been told that we arrived right in the middle of a heat spell. No kidding! Over the past three weeks, the temperature's been above 100 degrees every single day, with few clouds and no rain at all. It's dry heat, so it feels like you're in a convection oven (especially when you get in a car that's been baking in the sun). We're not complaining about the central air conditioning in our apartment!
Jobs
God provides in all ways imaginable. He granted me a part-time job as a legal assistant to an attorney here in Dallas. Even though it's off campus, it pays well and the job is fun. I started working the week after we arrived, and will continue as school starts. Derek will be working part time too, doing SEO (search engine optimization) work from home.
We are also very thankful for all those who have continued to support us financially into our seminary training!
Church
So far we've been able to visit two churches in the Dallas area. Please pray that we'll be able to find a good church where we can worship and serve at.
School
We have orientation tomorrow (8/24) and Friday (8/25). Classes start on Monday (8/28). From what we've heard, seminary is going to be a LOT of work. Please keep us in prayer as we balance school, work and family life!
Photos coming later. For now, enjoy our Flickr photos of the trip down from Idaho.

no i dont sell bubble tea, and yes i knew it was from taiwan. either you told me that or someone you told told me.
i had two bubble teas in a period of one week and i think they'll lose some of their specialness if i have htem too much. but if i were in singapore and they were $1 each...well, lets just say i'd probably have more than two a week for the first while.
